XPS foam CFRT sandwich panels are new thermal insulation composite panels developed by TOPOLOGROUP for box construction. They consist of two layers of CFRT (continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic) panels, a layer of XPS foam core material and several embedded materials.
Using thermoplastic CFRT instead of thermosetting FRP as the surface layer of the XPS foam sandwich panel can bring many benefits.
More durable: CFRT is tougher and more wear-resistant than FRP. FRP will break when encountering strong impact, but CFRT will not.
Affordable: The price of CFRT is much lower than FRP, and the CFRT manufacturing process is simpler and more efficient.
More environmentally friendly: CFRT, as a thermoplastic material, can be fully recycled, while FRP is difficult to recycle.
Experiments show that even if the XPS foam sandwich panel is squeezed and deformed, the CFRT sheet as the skin can still remain intact.

Continuous fibers are combined with thermoplastic resins to create durable, lightweight and durable UD prepreg tapes, which are then thermal laminated together at set angles to form CFRT sheets with improved performance. CFRT laminates are known for their excellent mechanical properties, including high strength-to-weight ratio, good impact resistance, and resistance to environmental factors such as moisture and chemicals.
