XPS (extruded polystyrene) foam insulation board is made of polystyrene resin as raw material and other auxiliary materials and polymers. They are heated and mixed through a special process, and then continuously extruded and pressed to produce a rigid foam board. XPS foam has a perfect closed-cell honeycomb cell structure, which makes it excellent in many performances. It is widely used in construction, cold chain transportation, industrial insulation and other fields.
Key Features of XPS Foam
Excellent thermal insulation performance
Thermal conductivity is a key indicator to measure the material’s ability to prevent heat transfer. XPS foam has extremely low thermal conductivity because its unique molecular structure and closed-cell morphology can effectively limit the occurrence of heat convection and heat conduction, which gives it excellent thermal insulation performance.
Lightweight
The density of XPS foam is generally less than 50kg/m³, which makes it very light and easy to handle and install. This is very beneficial for applications that need to reduce their own load.
High strength and pressure resistance
Due to its uniform and dense closed-cell structure and the unique molecular chain arrangement formed during the production process, this high strength enables XPS foam to withstand large loads without deformation.
Excellent moisture & water resistance
The closed-cell structure of XPS polystyrene foam is the key to its excellent moisture resistance. The closed-cell structure makes it difficult for moisture to penetrate into the foam, thus effectively preventing moisture absorption. This feature is a great advantage in applications with high humidity or contact with water.
Corrosion resistance
Polystyrene foam has good resistance to most chemicals, thanks to the chemical structure of polystyrene itself and the stabilizers and antioxidants added during the production process. It is not easily corroded and degraded by common chemicals such as acids, alkalis, salts and organic solvents. This allows XPS foam to maintain stable performance under various complex environmental conditions.

Application of XPS Foam Board

Building insulation
XPS foam is widely used in the thermal insulation layer of building roofs, walls and floors due to its excellent thermal insulation performance and compressive strength. It can effectively reduce energy consumption and improve the energy efficiency of buildings.

Cold chain logistics
In the field of cold chain logistics, XPS boards as core materials are made into various specifications of insulated boxes, refrigerated bodies, etc., which are used for the transportation and storage of refrigerated items such as food and medicine.

Industrial pipelines
XPS foam can also be used for the insulation and antifreeze of industrial pipelines to ensure the normal operation of pipelines under extreme temperature conditions.
